Willis Point Road
In the rugged landscape of Willis Point, where deer pressure reigns supreme and the ground itself presents formidable obstacles, this garden now flourishes. With the backyard newly fenced, desirable plants are finally within reach.
But the challenges didn't end there. The property, perched atop blasted bedrock, presented a steep slope and a unique sub-layer of sand—an environment devoid of the soil essential for plant life. We utilized ferro cement structures for both retaining walls and raised beds. Yet, the issue of extreme drainage and lack of soil persisted—a challenge that demanded creative solution. Enter a layer of wood chips, acting as a buffer between the sand and the thick layer of soil above. This approach not only provided essential nutrients for plant growth but will also help retain moisture, ensuring the survival of even the most delicate specimens.
Expanding the patio with Minnesota limestone extended the entertainment space, offering a canvas for decorative pot plantings that added beauty and charm to the outdoor sanctuary. But perhaps the most joyous celebration came with the planting of over 1400 bulbs, predominantly tulips—a colorful tribute to the newfound freedom from deer intrusion, and a nod to the client's favorite bloom.
